The Birth of Jesus

Based on his extensive research, and guided by God’s Spirit, Luke continues unfolding the identity of Jesus, by describing how God orchestrated the birth of Jesus. We’ll explore how the arrival of Jesus was both miraculous and mundane. God worked miraculously by fulfilling Old Testament prophecies that Messiah would be born of a virgin in Bethlehem, and situated Jesus’ parents in Bethlehem at exactly the time for the birth, through a census called by the Roman Emperor. These miraculous eve

Who Is Jesus

Who is Jesus? Diverse perspectives about Jesus Christ fill people’s opinions, media portraits, academic research, and everyday conversations. A religious philosopher?  A social revolutionary? A crazy guy who claimed to be God? A mysterious figure we can’t know much about? The Son of God? What does that mean? We’re exploring the identity of Jesus revealed in the Gospel of Luke. Luke was an accomplished intellectual and renowned physician who conducted extensive research to write a thoughtful account of the life and teaching of Jesus.

Christ and Culture

How can we faithfully follow Christ in the midst of confusing cultural values in the media, classroom, work ethics, friendships, and more? We’ll go on a journey with Daniel and his teenage friends, learning how they honored God while grieving the destruction of their nation, forced to live far away from home as slaves in a strange new culture with radically different values. We’ll study how they lived missional lives as a blessing among their community, while standing on God’s truth to resist temptations, to help us live as Ambassadors of Christ in our cultural contexts today.

The Rock

Both the Apostles, Paul and Peter refer to Isaiah’s admonition to the Israelites to heed God’s words (Isaiah 8:13-15). The Rock, often a reference to God Himself, is mentioned as a stumbling block and a cornerstone. For many years the cornerstone of our faith has been a stumbling block to the people of the Muslim world. How can we remove the stones that hinder their coming to faith? At the same time, do we place stumbling stones in the lives of others when we should be building on the chief cornerstone of Christ; building through heeding his word?

Breaking Barriers

We’ll explore how Jesus broke through social, racial, gender, and religious barriers to express God’s love to a hurting woman and pour out his grace to transform her life. What barriers does God want to break through in our lives? How will work through us to break down barriers in our world? Come prepared to be overwhelmed by God’s lavish love, changed by Christ’s extravagant grace, and called by the Holy Spirit to carry Christ’s redemptive mission into everyday life.

Everyone is Invited

This week during Weird Animals VBS we’ve been meeting the weirdest looking animals, but learning how God uniquely created them with special purposes, to help each child discover how much God loves them and Christ invites them to follow him. Sometimes we can feel weird or rejected or alone. These painful feelings might result from rejection by friends, failure at work, racism against us, guilt from sins, and so much more. Jesus reached out to a small community of people with leprosy who felt re

Yes, Period

How does God, the king of the universe want us to use our speech in a world where God is king of the universe? Sunday‘s sermon, “Yes, Period,” will pose this problem and look to the Bible for solutions.

Science and Faith

Several popular writers have argued in recent years that science has supplanted religion, but Paul argues that “what may be known about God is plain”.  Which is it?  What does science tell us about God and about who we are?  Are there things that science does not tell us?  Are there ways other than those of science by which we may see ‘God made plain’? This sermon will help you to see that Christianity is both holistic and rational, a true and firm foundation for living – and that science, properly understood, is not antagonistic to faith.

To Be Imitator of God’s Love

The main point of Paul’s letter to Ephesians is unity with love in the church. In the view of a believer who has a desire to impact other lives for Jesus, the book can be outlined by the key word—walk: how we walked before we did not know Jesus and how we should walk after we know Jesus. The message will focus on the walk in love, how we can imitate our Lord Jesus in love to influence people for expansion of church, the body of Christ.
