Katy is investing this year pouring her life into FBC college students and serving on the worship team. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College with her degree in Theatre Arts and Education. She directed, stage managed, and choreographed multiple theater productions at MHC. She felt God’s call to intern to give back to the church that blessed her so richly during her college years and because of her deep love for the church: “I grew immensely in my faith at FBC. I’m beyond excited to serve alongside the rest of the college ministry team and church family. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for this year!” Katy enjoys herbal tea, fresh berries, sunsets, and kids of all ages.

Derrick graduated from UMass with dual degrees in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Mathematics. He is preparing to become a doctor specializing in ophthalmology. God placed a burden on his heart to serve as an intern to help students to connect in community and grow more like Christ. He is passionate about offering space where God’s love is experienced by everyone, whatever their school or ethnicity or interests: “I value the importance that community serves in a student’s life. The FBC community kept me grounded and motivated me to grow in my relationship with God.” Derrick is a sports junkie who enjoys talking about, playing, and watching all kinds of sports.

Janie earned her UMass degree in Public Health with a concentration in Medicine. She served many ways during her college experience, leading the UMass Women’s Growth Group, serving on the Agape Worship Team, volunteering in FBC’s children’s ministry, and serving as a barista at Freedom Cafe. “I’m choosing to intern because FBC is where I could really call my faith my own and I learned more about God than ever before. My Growth Group gave me freedom to be vulnerable and ask questions. Now I feel called to give back by showing God’s love and acceptance to students that I experienced as a student.” Janie plays multiple musical instruments, including piano, viola, and guitar.
